How to Tile a Bathroom Floor

The bathroom is an important part of your house. It is natural for you to take special care of the designing and the styling aspect of your bathroom. The bathroom floor and walls need a lot of planning related to what materials to use on them. Though you have a large number of options in this regard, tiles are perfect for any size and model of bathroom. Here are a few tips that you shall benefit from while installing tiles in your bathroom. Tiles are low on maintenance and last for a long time. Read on to know more.

Cutting Tips

You must be exactly sure about the dimensions of each tile you choose to install. Cutting is the first step to a perfect bathroom tiling job. Keep in mind not to cut up the tiles to a very narrow length. This looks unkempt and shabby. The cut must not be less than half of the total tile size. The ends of the tiles on the opposite sides need to be of the same size. In case they are not of the same size, the bathroom floor being tiled does not end up with a neat look and finish to it.

Placement and Sizing Tips

Make sure that you use only full sized tiles on the central area of the floor in your bathroom. The trimmed and slim tiles cut out can be used along the edges. Never let a trimmed tile to interfere in the tile layout at the main area. This makes the entire floor of your bathroom look untidy. You may choose tiles that are part of a jigsaw design. The floor tiles must be chosen keeping in mind the surrounding décor of your bathroom. You must coordinate the bathroom floor tiles with the color of the bathroom walls. The lighting set ups and the fixtures too must be considered while selecting the bathroom tiles for the floor.

Sealing Tips

After the bathroom floor is tiled, it becomes mandatory that you seal the surface of the tiles. Since your bathroom is no terrace, this sealing part must not be optional but obligatory. Make sure that the bathroom tiles are of the semi-shiny type instead of the super glossy ones. You must take care to seal the grout of the tile flooring or else the bathroom floor tends to get damaged due to water accumulation. Caulking is another important step that you need to perform on the lines along the tiles' perimeter.

Other Tips

You must ensure that you have tools like a tile saw, cutter, trowel, drill, nipper attachments at hand. If you are not very conversant with handling such tools, it is best to seek the services of a professional tiling contractor. Make sure that the existing bathroom floor where you need to install the tiles is cleaned and free of debris. The floor must not be rough or bumpy. A cement board layer needs to be put on the floor surface before the tiles are installed. Have a great looking bathroom floor with the right set of tiles installed!
