Where to Buy a Plush Pig

Do you know someone who loves pigs? They have little piggy pajamas; have piggy bed sheets, maybe even piggy art? Well then, maybe you should consider giving them a plush pig this Christmas.

Plush is a super soft material that often lines the exterior of stuffed animals. Once, plush was made out of yarn or silk, but in modern times plush is made out of polyester. The best plush toys are made by the major toy manufacturers, including Ty, Steiff, Gund, and Russ Berrie. Their plush is usually softer than their competitors, and the quality of the stitching is usually better.

If you want the best plush toys around though, look no further than Gund. The year was 1898, and Gund was founded by Adolph Gund, a German immigrant in Connecticut. Ever since then, Gund has been making plush toys delighting children the world over. They are considered pioneers in the stuffed toy industry, making the world's first affordable musical stuffed animal, for instance. However, plush is their bread and butter, and they have plenty of plush pigs designed for any occasion.

You'll be able to find a wide variety of plush items locally at stores such as Target and Wal-Mart, as well as on the internet. Each has their pros and cons, and the better choice depends on how much you are willing to spend, how much time you want to invest, and whether or not you are looking for something specific.

If you are searching at a local Target or Wal-Mart, the selection will often be quite low. They will carry generic mass produced plush toys, and might not even have any pigs in stock! However, they are cheap, and are available immediately. A store like Target or Wal-Mart is a good choice if you want a generic pig, say for decorative purposes.

Local specialty shops, such as Toys 'R Us and FAO Schwartz will have much larger varieties of stuffed animals. You will assuredly find plush pigs at these types of stores, but the variety will still be less than what you might find on the internet. Still, the prices should still be competitive and these plush toys are a step above what you will find above Target and Wal-Mart.

Finally, we get to the great internet superstore. Where there were too few options locally, you may very well find that there are too many options online. You have to really do your searching to get the plush toys you want, and without actually feeling it, you won't know how soft the plush actually is. However, you'll be able to read other customer reviews, so you can get an idea of what other people thought of the item.

Some great places to find plush pigs are Amazon and eBay. Amazon has one of the largest inventories of any online retailer, and will even help you find smaller businesses that carry plush toys. There will probably be a smaller selection on eBay, but if you are looking for a specific plush toy, it might be your best bet. You will usually save 30% by buying online versus retail, but always take a look at shipping costs to see if it's reasonable.
